Mukherjee dar bou is a reflection of the present society where relations are strained by various factors. Often a distance occurs between children and their parents as they both find it difficult to communicate going beyond their age. The same is the scenario in the movie Mukherjee dar Bou.
After the recent demise of Aditi’s(Koneenica) father in law, her mother-in-law (Anushuya Majumdar) suffered from sudden pangs of insecurity. She always tried to seek the attention of the family members by creating various problematic situations.
Aditi had to face a load of her mother-in-law’s insecurities and anger since she was the second person present at home.
Both the daughter-in-law and mother-in-law lost their own identity behind their surname Mukherjee dar bou. The movie is the fight between these two ladies secretly fighting against the norms of society to gain their identity back again.
The story reflects almost all the household through a simple narrative. The movie highlights the liberation of women as an independent being from the invisible shackles of society.
2. KONTHO

The story of the movie Kontho revolves around the character Arjun Mallick who suffers from laryngeal cancer. Due to excessive smoking, his voice box gets affected. Arjun (Shiboprashad Mukherjee) is presented as a lovable and responsible Radio Jockey who is a complete man and a darling father.
Only when he knew there is no treatment other than removing his voice box, he was completely shattered. The movie is rich in content, drama, and sentiment which will give the audience more than enough.
The storytelling is simple and crisp. The development of the characters and finally redemption is well constructed. Arjun‘s struggle is very well played by Shiboprasad. Arjun had to cross the five stages of struggle such as denial, rage, bargain, misery and finally acceptance.
3. VINCI DA

Another thriller-mystery by Srijit Mukherjee will surely enthrall you. The story is narrated from Vinci Da’s point of view who is an obsessed artist. To him, everything is art and projecting art in a realistic way is the work of a true artist. Although being talented he struggled hard to get recognition. ‘
His life completely changed when Adi Bose a psychopath seeks his help. He completely bluffs Vinci Da by offering him a chance as a makeup artist in a film. Since Vinci Da was ignorant about the criminal minded Adi Bose he accepted to take up the task of completing it. Other than Rudranil Bose, Ritwik Chakraborty, Sohini Sarkar, and Riddhi Sen deserve a special mention for their brilliant performance.
The character formation, the journey of each character and final revelation is well crafted in the movie. The movie not only sketches the criminal mind but also brings up the real-life issues of the film industry. Generally, the issues are the technicians’ payment, the content of Bengali cinema, superstar’s stardom secrets and other several issues.
4. DURGESH GORER GUPTADHONE

After Guptadhoner Sadhana, Durgesh Gorer Guptadhone seems a sequel of the previous one but with a different story. The movie shows enough historical piece of the heritage of Bengal under the Mughal rule. The graphics as the into to the story will give the audience the cue to get along with the story.
Although the story could have been better with better weaving of the plot. The action scenes were not realistic enough to captivate your attention. Abir Chatterjee is always the best pick in the detective genre. Along with Abir, Arjun Chakraborty( as Abir) also give a lot of humor to the audience.
5. BHABISHYOTER BHOOT

Bhabishyoter Boot is a satirical piece to point out the flaws of the existing society. It’s sarcasm on the prediction of future ghosts and their way of upgrading themselves to fit in the scenario.
In the age of transition where all old and outdated styles, thoughts and fashions are changing the present-day ghosts are finding it difficult to settle themselves. The old dilapidated buildings which were once the digs are now converted into multiplexes.
The pun intended quotes and dialogues will really give you some fresh ideas about the reality in a comical muffle.
6. SWEATER

The movie Sweater is a soft yet inspiring story of a girl, Tuku, who is lily-livered. She is shy and doubtful about herself. She believed her sister is far better than her. The problem of her life is the suitors who approach her always rejects her.
Eventually, a reputed family from Kolkata agrees to the proposal of marriage. They agreed to continue with one condition that is Tuku must learn how to knit a sweater.
The movie displays the struggle of a timid girl to gain recognition from any work of skill. The setting of the movie seemed a little weak but the story with its simplicity will surely touch the fine nerve of the audience.
7. SHANKAR MUDI

The movie Sankar Mudi has a speculative plot of the real problem of arising in society. Generally, these days movies display the journey of characters, very common topics or patriotic movies but rare topics such as this one is hardly thought of.
The story of Shankar Mudi is of a grocer who struggles to keep up with the customers in the age of multiplexes. The very ordinary people may also have a story to narrate. This is probably is discovered in the story.
8. GOTRO
Directed by – Shiboprashad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy
Rating- 7.5/10
Gotro puts forth the issue of the cast which is still predominant in the minds of the audience. This movie has a predictable plot of where the characters question whether relations are based on casts.
Both Nigel Akkara and Anaushua Majumdar acted brilliantly displaying the depth of the mother-son relationship.
9. BORNOPORICHOY

Rating- 5.7/10 (IMDB)
A very predictable plot where a police detective is chasing a bad guy. Inspired by the serial killer kind of movies this is a nice attempt by the director. Dhananjoy, as played by Jishu Sengupta, is a police detective who take-up a case that destroyed his life and career.
Arko, as played by Abir Chatterjee, is a serial killer. The chase between the two and the final revelation is worth to see.
10. AHAA RE
Directed by – Ranjan Ghosh
Rating- 8.6(IMDB)
If you really want to relish the Bengali culture and its food this movie is a must-watch. Farhaz Chowdhury, who is a chef falls in love with Basundhara and her cooking. She runs a home catering service.
Ahaa Re celebrates food and the emotion related to cooking. Cooking is represented as another highest art in the movie.
The movie in totality celebrates Bengali food, culture blending it with a beautiful love story.
